So last year, a bunch of us started an artbook.
Sadly it was never finished.

I was wondering though, since next year is the 10 year anniversary of the con (if..my math is correct) people would be interested in starting it up again?
We could do anniversary themed artwork, maybe break it up with some stories.
OR.. Get funny stories from other con-goers and then turn those funny stories into comic.

Perhaps, with Benson's blessings, we could sell it at the table where they sell the shirts? 'v'

So yeah!
Anyone interested or have any questions/comments/ideas/concerns?

I think this is a great idea!! I would gladly take part in the construction of an Ai-Kon art book. Unfortunately, I cannot head the committee as I will be attending school fulltime throughout the year.

This sounds intresting, but what is it? Just a big book where people from Ai-kong draw pictures in it???

Well. no.. its going to hopefully be a collection of full colour pieces, comics and stories from con-goers and artists as a celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the convention! c:

I would be in, my drawing is not my highlight of my art / craft.  But I have an idea that involves foam stickers, pictures and such ^^ so I might take that route

I know this was sort of answered already, but I'm still curious... exactly what is being looked for to put in this thing? You say stories, comics, &c in celebration of 10 years of Ai-kon, and that's all well and good, but what subject matter specifically is being sought after? Artwork and stories featuring Aiko, featuring the Ai-kon staff, featuring Ai-kon artist regulars, artwork depicting the convention itself...?

I think it's more about the artist of ai-kon.
I personally don't have much when it comes to Ai-kon itself.
At the same time I think heard that people were doing one or 2 works that reflect ai-kon directly.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Mostly artwork and comics about experiences at the con, whether they be personal or universal. We had pieces about the artist room, the concert, the dealer's room, the preparation for Ai-Kon, etc. We had comics about free hugs, the night before Ai-Kon, and such. Whatever pertained to Ai-Kon we have room for.

I'll be happy to give you guys a one-page comic! Smiley I'm sad that it didn't work out for this year, but with it being Ai-kon's 10th anniversary this coming year it seems super appropriate for an artist book to be done for then! Any thoughts as to a deadline for people's submissions? I know last year some people seemed to think the winter deadline was too early but I think then or earlier even would be best so that everything gets organised. And with everyone starting to think about it now, there should be plenty of time to get work done. Any idea where it would be printed?

Probably UPS?
We might be able to get a deal with them, seeing as they have given deals to ai-kon folks in the past.
Unless you know anyone cheaper. XD;

I was thinking a Jan-Feb deadline?
I'd love some feedback from everyone else though.

I WOULD like to get everyone together for  one big meeting though. If even just to solidify the theme, dates, costs, whos doing what, etc...
Though the theme is.. pretty much Ai-kon Anniversary...

Other points I'd like to discuss at the meeting/on here would be:
Whos going to help pay for the printing costs?
Who's going to help with set up?
Where would we sell it, if the front tables are out of the question?

@ryuusei : Mostly just making sure all the pieces are in order, layout is correct/ready for print, cover page is done and some other things. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. XD;

From my experience UPS can be suuuper expensive when it comes to printing booklets, though granted I hadn't really gone to the specific one that has the guy offering ai-kon discounts it seems. For a 10 page black+white book with a colour cover it cost about 10$ each to print. So if you want 20 copies, thats 200$ right there. I'm not gonna claim I know a whole bunch of better places to go, but my friend did some research into places online that did printing for fairly cheap and that may be a way to go to cut costs. We printed a 80 page comic this year and for 30 copies it was about 260$, a much better value than UPS when I dealt with them. http://ka-blam.com/printing/front/ From my understanding this site deals with all sorts of booklet printing, not necessarily just comics, so it could be something to check out as a possibility. In any case, I think online printing could be something to look into. As long as we plan ahead and allow time for the printing and shipping, they'll probably give a better rate than local places. As far as i know at least.

Jan/Feb deadline sounds reasonable to me, it gives lots of time afterwards to get all the submissions organised Smiley

Well, this sounds like such a fun idea!

I guess I could write a little story about my Ai-Kon exsperiance! I had a friend that just went for her first year last year so maybe I could her opinion to Cheesy I think she loved it Wink, writing is my only skill!

My drawing isn't bad, I mean, its decent, but my colouring skills... questionable (:
I think I cannot colour on the computer like most artwork is done but I can colour with pencil crayons!! If that counts for anything Cheesy

I'm not bad at putting pictures together either! Like, putting a bunch of pictures from Ai-Kon together (: A collage!

If I can help with anything, just let me know!
